Blind Beggar E-mail
Was built in 1894, in the Whitechapel Road, The Blind Beggar has some history and a nice pub to grab a quick pint, also a nice atmosphere with heaters in its Beer Garden for smokers, or open air lovers.

Blind Beggar The bar is named after the legend of Henry de Montfort, son of Simon de Montfort. The legend is; Henry was wounded and lost his sight in the Battle of Evesham in 1265, and was healed by a baroness, and they had a child named Besse who became the Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green and used to beg at the crossroads. The story of how he went from landed gentry to poor beggar, became hugely popular in the Tudor era.

A murder took place in 1966 at the bar between two rival gang members. And The Blind Beggar which is known as the site on which the Salvation Army is started, is a common tourist attraction also for Salvationists. The event took place just outside the place that William Booth (preacher who founded The Salvation Army and its first general) preached his first open air sermon which led to the establishmend of the East London Christian Mission, later to become The Salvation Army.

Leaving history one side the pub has live music nights are hosted on occasion. You can find yourself in the middle of an Elvis night in front of a fake Elvis as you enter the place...

An easy place to find since it is really close to Whitechapel tube station. Click for the gmap .
